Humanities at Goodwin University

The mission of the Humanities Department at Goodwin University is to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive learning environment that inspires intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and an appreciation for the human experience. Rooted in the belief that the humanities are essential to fostering well-rounded individuals, our department is dedicated to nurturing a community of learners who engage with diverse perspectives, cultural expressions, and historical narratives. We seek to bridge the gap between the past and the present, encouraging students to reflect on the enduring questions that shape human existence. Our goal is to foster a deep sense of empathy, cultural competency, and ethical responsibility, preparing Goodwin students to contribute meaningfully to their chosen careers and more broadly, to society.

The Humanities Department also endeavors to support the University’s broader mission and institutional outcomes. We are committed first to cultivating adept communicators who can proficiently express and exchange ideas across a range of platforms, encompassing written, oral, and digital modalities. Secondly, we recognize the importance of information literacy and challenge our students to acquire the skills to identify pertinent information, assess alternative perspectives, and apply innovative solutions. Finally, we aim to prepare and advance students in their professional careers, while cultivating lifelong learners who appreciate the value of diversity, foster a sense of social responsibility, and contribute positively to the communities they serve.
