An Evening with Dr. Brittney Yancy and Dr. Ellen Swider (June 2022)

Next week, the New Britain Museum of American Art is unveiling their new exhibition, 30 Americans. Drawn from the acclaimed Rubell Museum in Miami, Florida, "30 Americans" showcases works by some of the most significant thirty African American artists of the last four decades, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mickalene Thomas, Kara Walker, Hank Willis Thomas, and Kehinde Wiley. The special exhibition is curated by UMASS-Lowell, Dr. Dann J. Broyld, Wesleyan Provost Nicole Stanton, and our Humanities Professor, Dr. Brittney Yancy. Each curator manipulates the exhibition to interpret their three themes: Making a Way Out of No Way: Radical Black Self-Making in Contemporary Art (Stanton), Signs and Wonders (Broyld), and Black Wonderment and Freedom Dreams: Adornment, Identity & Freedom (Yancy).

On June 30th, the NBMAA partnering with our Humanities Program to host a Goodwin University "Night A The Museum." The NBMAA invites the entire Goodwin community to the Gallery Talk with Humanities Professors Dr. Ellen Swider and Dr. Brittney Yancy. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and the gallery talk starts at 6 p.m. There will be food, music, and more available!

“30 Americans” opens June 17.
