The Research Process

A guide to start you on your research journey!

Choosing a Topic

The first step of any research project is choosing your topic. Your assignment may guide you in a certain direction , but there are many directions that you can choose to go with it. For example, say your professor has assigned a research paper on Health Care for Hispanics in the United States. This is a broad category and you will focus on a narrower aspect within. You could write about Hispanic men and diabetes, or childhood asthma trends in Hispanic youth. Choose a topic that is interesting to you. So how exactly do we develop a topic?

  • Brainstorming
  • Mind Maps
  • Background Research
