When should I refer a student to NEST?

Attendance

Class 1

The student does not appear for first class

  • Call or email any student who does not appear for the first class

Class 2

The student does not appear for second class

  • Call or email any student who does not appear for the second class; thereafter, any student not establishing attendance will be contacted by the registrar’s office

Classes 3 - 15

The student misses 2 consecutive classes but has not notified faculty

  • Attempt to contact the student via email or phone
  • If the student does not respond after 3 days, refer to NEST

Academic

Classes 3 - 15

The student misses 3 homework assignments

  • If the student is in class, meet with him/her to discuss missing work
  • If the student is not in class, attempt to contact the student via email or phone
  • If the student does not respond after 3 days, refer to NEST

Personal

Ongoing

The student indicates that he/she is homeless, in need of counseling, cannot afford to buy food, or has any other nonacademic concern.
