A guide to reference sources in American Literature

What is a Book Review?

Book reviews describe and criticize a book.  Reviews are usually written around the time a book is published and appear in scholarly journals and popular magazines.  Reviews are NOT literary criticism.  Literary criticism involves a much deeper analysis and evaluation of the work and normally takes place years after a work is published.
